Cheoah – 5-27-07 – CCC Mean & Ugly Ocoee-Cheoah Weekend

Sunday morning May 27th dawned bright, clear, and warm on the campground.  Most had08-Cheoah.jpg been doing some serious sleeping after a long day on the Ocoee on Sat. and a serious chow down afterwards at “Herbs” (not to mention a little medicinal liquid relaxant indulged in by a fair number while relaxing around the campgroud after dinner).  Suprisingly though not to long after myself and a very few began to move around and get breakfast, the rest followed and began to ready for the day’s paddling.

Seems like it was around 10-12 of us headed for the Cheoah, with most doing a breakfast stop in Murphy and then on to Robbinsville and on out toward the highway toward Santeela and Calderwood lakes – along Tapco Rd.  Arriving at Joanne’s store for our put in we quickly unloaded, dressed, and set shuttle.  Dana (of Mark and Dana) provided our shuttle and allowed us to get all the cars to the take out at Caldlerwood lake access/takeout.  After doing a little clown car routine to get around 8 of us in the vehical we ran to the top. NRG-New River Gorge – May 20, 2007

2007-05-20 New River Gorge 022Well, with the current water situation (aka – no rain/lack of water) after posting to serveral folks mid week to a consider NRG run being both one of the few place with water and being the closest to home (with gas now getting over the $3/gal.), we all agreed to meet up Sat. evening at Chestnut Creek Campground near the gorge.

Drew who had run it the previous week for the 1st time was pretty much chomping at the bit to get some more NRG action and his better half Anna who missed the previous trip and been hearing about it from Drew was ready to go too.  In addition Ronnie G. called me Sat. afternoon and was ready to get on NRG.
